Red & White
16th June 2006

A true Tilling fleet to the very end and always well turned out. Some Plaxton bodied coaches were a surprise, but they were on Bristol chassis. The livery hardly changed until the 1970s when DSs were given red roofs and the RDs were introduced. A modernised block lettered sloping fleetname was applied about the same time.
Then there was the famous fleet numbering. Hard to explain, but logical. In the late 1960s, wherever possible, the company matched new vehicle registrations with the fleetnumber, e.g. Bristol RE RAX 1G was R.168.
When Jones, Aberbeeg sold out, it was surprising to learn the company had passed to Red & White, rather than Western Welsh. R&W soon drafted in some of its vehicles, repainted into Jones livery. New vehicles from R&W deliveries also went to Aberbeeg in Jones livery and numbered in R&W series but with a 'J' suffix eg R.671J.
The assets of R&W were transferred to Western Welsh on 1st January 1978. The whole lot being renamed National Welsh Omnibus Sevices Limited on 27th April 1978.
