Location Hereford Country bus station July 1972. Can also be viewed in my English Bus Photos gallery with subsequent owner, Axe Vale Coaches. GVW978H started life as Eastern National 1608. Apologies for the quality of these photos, which have been scanned from Instamatic 126 size negatives. They were taken during the 1969 Omnibus Society Presidential Weekend held in South Wales and hosted by South Wales Transport. Its head office was transferred to The Square, Bournemouth, as the company was now administered by Hants & Dorset, although Gosport & Fareham remained the legal owner. Operations continued from Hoeford as a separate entity, and vehicles retained their green livery, later giving way to leaf green. 69 (977 CWL) came from City of Oxford, in whose fleet it was 977. Photographed at Hoeford depot, 18/08/73 77 (EWO 467) was bought from Monmouthshire operator Howells & Withers, Pontllanfraith. New in 1942 to Red & White as 467, renumbered in 1951 to L442. Bought for preservation in 1970 when withdrawn. Photo taken 30/04/94 at Newport bus station during a special parade to marks its reopening following rebuilding. 33 (PNN 774) Photographed at Hoeford depot, 18/08/73. On 30th April 1973 H & D took over Winchester based independent R.Chisnell & Sons, better known as King Alfred. Photos of King Alfred and Wilts & Dorset vehicles in their pre-NBC liveries, but with H & D fleetnames, taken after the above dates are included in this collection, plus a few from Shamrock & Rambler.
